A testimony of God’s faithfulness and provision

When my son was born in 2002, I decided to leave my job as a graphic designer to become a full-time mum. It was a step of faith as I knew our family finances were going to be tight but I felt it was best for our new baby.

After a few months I began to receive telephone calls asking if I was able to work from home and I began to take on a few small jobs which I could do when my son was in bed. Since then I have done very little networking or advertising and have relied on God to bring me work. When my daughter was born two years later, I took six months off and then continued much as before.

At the beginning of 2007, I felt very much that God wanted me to step-up my business. I was beginning to get more and more referrals and larger job offers and I felt that I should lay down ‘firmer foundations’ on which to grow my business.

However, I went through a period of discouragement when a few of my clients had difficulty paying me. This caused some financial problems when I was left to pay my suppliers out of my own limited resources.

In February of that year, I went to a meeting with Christian businessman Jim Gibson. I was greatly encouraged by many of the things he spoke about: God gives us the ability to create wealth and to manage it, God gives us bread to eat and seed to sow (invest), we have a Godly inheritance which we should manage wisely. After the meeting I asked Pastors Gordon and Fiona to pray with me. They also encouraged me and gave me some practical advice regarding my business.

In the following six weeks amazing things happened… I met key people who have been able to give me practical help and advice regarding laying down the ‘firmer foundations’. I have also met business people who are referring new clients to me and I have secured a number of larger contracts.

Following this, I took a step of faith and invested in a new computer and software upgrades. My previous computer was eight years old and although very ‘faithful’ was struggling to keep up with the turnover of work!
I am hoping this year to have a financial breakthrough in my business, so that I can move away from just supporting the family finances, to actually saving, investing and sowing some seed. For me it is a great joy and a sign of God’s blessing to bring my tithes to church every time I get a cheque and I look forward to being able to bring larger amounts and to be able to sow into the vision of the church.

At a meeting with Mark Evans, he read a scripture from Job 8v7 “Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be”. Over the last few years, and indeed my whole adult life, I have known God’s covering and provision. It is exciting to be on this journey with a great and faithful God!
